Brazilian Nickel PLC Appoints PNM President

Brazilian Nickel PLC (“BRN” or “the Company”), the privately held UK company developing its nickel laterite heap leach project in Brazil, announces that Mr Guilherme Jácome has joined the Company as Piauí Niquel Metais (“PNM”), BRN’s local subsidiary, President.

Mr Jácome’s responsibilities will be managing the Piauí Nickel Project (“PNP”, or the “Project”) in Brazil and all in-country support services and local business developments. The immediate focus will be on the organisational development and operational readiness for the PNP1000 project which is anticipated to produce first nickel in Q2 2022. He will also contribute to the completion of the PNP Bankable Feasibility Study and will be central to the full-scale operations of the PNP Project anticipated in 2024.

Mr Jácome is a registered engineer with 20 years’ experience in the mining and infrastructure industry. While a Director at Potássio do Brasil, he was in charge of the development of the Autazes Potash Project in the Amazon. Guilherme went on to become President and was responsible for marketing development, public affairs, licencing and ESG standards. Prior to this, Mr Jácome was a General Manager at Vale, implementing the development of a new management and performance system and supporting an estimated investment plan of US$50 billion. His earlier work at Vale included construction management and business development of the 118 Copper Project, Cristalino Copper Project, Niquel do Vermelho and Salobo Copper Project, mainly in the Amazon region. Additionally, earlier in Guilherme’s career he began the construction of the Onça Puma Nickel Project, where he was responsible for planning and controlling the overall enterprise, including managing multiple contractors with an investment of US$2.3 billion and 9,000 workers.

Mike Oxley, CEO of Brazilian Nickel, commented: “I would like to give a warm welcome to Guilherme. His extensive experience in both Brazil and in developing mining projects will be a vital asset in moving PNP1000 forward and the ultimate full-scale PNP operation.”

“Guilherme’s addition to the team is part of a focus on organisational development and wider support for functional activities at PNM. The PNP1000 project is just under 70% complete and the Bankable Feasibility Study engineering work is just over 75% complete.”

“We look forward to working with Guilherme as we move from a project development company to an emerging producer.”

About Brazilian Nickel PLC

BRN is a privately held UK company established in May 2013 to develop nickel laterite heap leach projects worldwide, beginning with its flagship Project in Brazil.  The BRN team are all highly experienced mining industry professionals with extensive experience in Latin America and worldwide. The team has been developing and commercialising the heap leaching of nickel laterites for over 20 years with a view to building a world class nickel and cobalt producing company. As part of BRN commitment to sustainability it follows the guidelines of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

About the Piauí Nickel Project

The Project is an advanced-staged Battery Metals project with a JORC resource of 72 million tonnes at 1.0% Ni and 0.05% Co, with 73% of the resource in the JORC Measured category. All metallurgical test work in support of a bankable feasibility study is complete and the key environmental permits (Licenças Previas) have been awarded. The project envisages near-term production of separate intermediate nickel and cobalt hydroxide products to supply the surge in demand for these metals in, among other things, electric vehicle batteries. The PNP 1000 project will quick-start operations by expanding the existing demonstration plant at the site, and will allow BRN to benefit from increasingly strong nickel prices.
