11 Mar BRAZILIAN NICKEL LIMITED SIGNS OFFTAKE MOU WITH PURE BATTERY TECHNOLOGIES TO STRENGTHEN EU BATTERY SUPPLY CHAIN
Brazilian Nickel Limited (BRN), a private company focused on the development of primary nickel and cobalt production in Brazil, is pleased to announce that it has signed a non-binding offtake agreement with Königswarter & Ebell Chemische Fabrik, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pure Battery Technologies (PBT), to strengthen the European battery supply chain and advance cleaner material sourcing.
Under the agreement, BRN would sell up to 5,000 tonnes of nickel and about 120 to 200 tonnes of cobalt in Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) per year to PBT. The material would then be refined using PBT’s low-emission hydrometallurgical processes at its Germany-based refinery, Königswarter & Ebell Chemische Fabrik, supporting the goal of establishing a cost-effective European supply chain for battery materials.
Brazilian Nickel CEO Mark Travers said: “This agreement advances Brazilian Nickel’s goal to create a cost competitive, sustainable and low CO2 European battery supply chain as an alternative to Chinese supply chains. We are very pleased to work with a strategic partner that shares our dedication to responsible and sustainable practices throughout their organization and we look forward to agreeing a binding MOU and ultimately a formal offtake agreement in 2025. Diversifying the supply of critical minerals such as nickel is an essential step towards wider European economic security and prosperity.”
PBT CEO Bjorn Zikarsky said: “We are excited to collaborate with companies that share our dedication to the highest standards of environmental stewardship in critical mineral processing. By working together with partners who leverage innovation and technology to reduce emissions at every stage of the supply chain — just as we do — we can collectively drive a more sustainable and secure future for battery materials.”

About Pure Battery Technologies
Pure Battery Technologies (PBT), headquartered in Brisbane, Australia, with a German subsidiary in Ettlingen, produces the precursor for nickel-based active cathode material (CAM), which is used in lithium-ion batteries required for electric cars. The company offers environmentally friendly, cost-effective processes for the production of active precursor cathode material (pCAM). The processes developed together with the University of Queensland produce high-quality battery materials with a much lower environmental impact and are much more cost-effective than the processes currently in use. Together with cooperation partners, the company aims to establish a closed material cycle for cathode material in the European Union in recycling.
